About the cemetery

Character and history

This woodland cemetery stretches about two kilometres and combines the Old and New Chapels, natural areas, war graves and artistically important monuments. Choose the main entrance, Windelsbleicher Straße or southern entrances according to your burial section.

Senne Cemetery opened on 15 August 1912, designed by Friedrich Schultz as a reform and woodland cemetery. The Old Chapel followed in 1913. Later extensions, a second chapel and different religious burial areas developed it into Bielefeld’s major municipal cemetery.
